Patriotic Tiered Tray Decorating
There are so many reasons to celebrate with a patriotic theme throughout the year, and Independence Day is just one of many. These ideas will keep your tiered tray fresh from President’s Day through Veteran’s Day with beautiful Americana charm!
Now that I’ve been decorating tiered trays for a few years, I’ve come to the realization that it’s less about the decorating, and more about the celebrating.

Tiered trays offer a wonderful way to express your creativity, but also to cultivate more joy by celebrating all of life’s moments.
Moreover, the time we take to decorate our trays is also a mindful moment of celebration, and I think that’s a really important part of a life well-lived.
It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget to stop and enjoy the little things. When we only pull out our decor for the huge celebrations like Halloween or Christmas, for instance, we miss a lot of the important reasons to pause and appreciate daily life.
I think there’s just as much meaning in celebrating, for example, Veteran’s Day and remembering those who have served our country.
Furthermore, you can also find joy in the little things, like celebrating National Ice Cream Day (June 7th…in case you didn’t know!). Or, pausing to acknowledge the importance of pollinators on World Bee Day (May 20th).
There are so many reasons to decorate and celebrate all year long, and tiered trays give us an easy way to do it!
In fact, I’ve put together an idea guide of 500 tiered tray decor themes that you will definitely want to check out. Yes–500 of them!! You will never run out of ideas with my huge printable guide!
But for today, while we get ready for Independence Day, my tray is overflowing with patriotic pride, so let’s take a tour of the details–plus be sure to check out a collection of some of my favorite trays from talented friends this season (down below).

For my theme this year, I was going for a Vintage Colonial vibe with my patriotic tiered tray decor.
I’m loving my 3-tier galvanized tray right now, and it seemed perfect for this season!
On the lower level, I used little vintage ironstone creamers, some vintage loving cups, and a primitive wooden pig pull toy.
Next, over the side, I draped my favorite set of chippy wooden beads. And, tucked in the back, there’s a small, vintage stoneware house figurine that reminds me of early American homes.
Then, on the middle level of my three-tier tray, I used a rustic wooden croquet ball, and a couple of large wooden thread spools.

The way the spools are arranged at the edge of the tray kind of reminds me of a canon muzzle, so it added another nod to Colonial Americana.
On the top level of my tray, I included one of my vintage jute spools (you can find more of these in our shop!).

After that, I also had an antique Edison phonograph cylinder in my vintage collection that happened to be a perfect shade of vintage blue, and I filled it with small American flags.
Throughout the entire tray, I incorporated some of my grain sack mini-pillows that I made from grain sack fabric, old denim jeans, and red ticking fabric.
I recently shared the full tutorial to make these little pillows, and they’re perfectly sized for tiered trays–as well as shelf tucks, or bowl filler!
In addition, these little pillows are so easy to make…once I started sewing them, I just kept going, and now they’re everywhere in our house!
This might be one of my favorite trays that I’ve ever styled, and I really think I could leave it up through Labor Day to enjoy it all summer long!

Don’t you think that patriotic decor could really be year-round? I don’t see why not!
